TAL introduces the "B4" LED Down Light Family as an Alternate to 75W Halogen PAR30 Lighting Fixtures.

ARCADIA, CA, February 20, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Technical Architectural Lighting (TAL) announces the introduction of the "B4" family of 12W LED Downlights which effectively replaces halogen down lights using 75W halogen PAR30 lamps.

Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) have been used extensively in lighting applications for several years. Technology has, up until now, limited LED use in interior applications to decorative, step, special effect, and marker lights. This has all changed with the introduction of the"B4"; a family of recessed or surface mounted fixtures providing ample ambient light for many general lighting applications.

Limiting LED lighting systems has been the need to evacuate thermal energy (heat sink) so the LED can effectively maintain its long life and other benefits. TAL has defeated this obstacle using patented technology from Bekaert for optimized heat dissipation. This technology utilizes an aluminum foam to conduct heat away from the LEDs. This technology is licensed exclusively to TAL for lighting applications. The foam has an extremely high surface aspect ratio and the interconnected bubbles form an intricate path for any gases or liquids flowing through them. Such a complex path brings more gas (ambient air) or liquids into contact with the metal walls, significantly increasing surface area exposure. The result is outstanding convective heat transfers.

The heat sink technology has been married with four high performing Cree LEDs offered in both cool white and warm white versions with a CRI in the mid 80's. Wattage at full output is 12W and the fixtures can be dimmed if desired. All is mounted in a solid aluminum fixture body featuring a nominal 4"aperture with both a narrow (10 degree) and medium flood (40 degree) distribution. Designers may choose versions which are recessed (trimmed or trim-less) or surface mounted (nominally 4"X 4"x6") with textured white and textured black finish options.
